Hi!

In case anyone is still here on this soon-to-be-closed forum: I have started working on a nicer looking and simpler yet evenly powerful version of the Business Model Calculator in Google Spreadsheet:

I like the concept.

It has always worked for me to start with an assumptions tab or tabs with assumptions in just a few places over time

so it is easy to change assumptions and do what if analysis. Seems like some of your tabs have assumptions listed, but they don't look to change over time,

there would be an accumulation tab by year to show assumptions over time as they relate to one another with the final results a business model in $$ s .

Hi Sahil, you are very welcome! I am surprised how you and others still find this a useful spreadsheet, even after so many years, even if it is only a simple version.

There could be an opportunity here to make some business out of it, in case anyone is interested. FYI: I did a test selling the spreadsheet and was able to sell it two times for $5 (unlocked version).

I do not have the time to pursue this.

Hello Diderik,

Love your spreadsheet database. I just came to know about these business models when I read Business Model Generation by A. Osterwalder. I wanted to use your spreadsheet model as a reference on something I am working on, which actually makes my life so easy.

Thanks.

Much Thanks Diderik,

Yes some Spreadsheet (am using ooCalc) skills are needed to fiddle with and tidy things up but you have provided the best scaffolding I have found for me to build on a SIMPLE BMC approach.

Hi Rob,

It makes me happy to read that you found the Excelsheet so useful! I spent some hours on making it and had the idea of progressing it to a complete version, but then other (more interesting) things came along. You know how it goes ;) As I understand you know more about Excel than the average person, it is great you can use it for your project(s).

On the assumption: no pressure whatsoever from anyone.

Since I made the spreadsheet I have been helping many entrepreneurs with their BMC and recommended them to either: make a spreadsheet if they know there way around Excel or buy the app (only $25 I believe) and in case they don't have an iPad just buy a used iPad 1.

The online subscription tools are very expensive indeed. So far from the iPad app.

Anyways, you are welcome and good luck with the sheet!

Well Diderik,

You've done it!

I just need to say what a great tool this is. I discovered business model canvas a few days ago (ok, I'm late off the mark and sure the buzz has moved on) and was taken by it's one page simplicity. Of course, very quickly the need to 'model' figures and calculations arises. Here you have successfully, in my view, blended the Simplicity with a degree of 'Advanced'-ness, using spreadsheet power to add a dynamic modelling dimension the 'flat' page…

Of course, very quickly the need to 'model' figures and calculations arises. Here you have successfully, in my view, blended the Simplicity with a degree of 'Advanced'-ness, using spreadsheet power to add a dynamic modelling dimension the 'flat' page lacks.

Thanks for making it available for free and unlocked for fiddling with. This is exactly what I needed. Don't have an ipad; was not keen on the web apps and consider excel the most flexible/portable/cost-effective tool to do this. Thanks for putting in the work to allow me to test some hypotheses.

Now, I am aware there are a few political and economic considerations. I am also aware you have stopped developing this. However you have left it in a place that is usable for someone simple like me who is not able to invest in these monthly subscription tools and apps. And don't mind copying and pasting a few formulae to expand its usefulness to my own scenarios.

I can see that you and other people want to make money from your labours (and why not). I can see that on this forum some people even trying to commercialise YOUR efforts, seemingly for themselves. I can also see that all the wants, suggestions and ideas would become a full-time job for you and therefore require a bill-paying, lifestyle fulfilling return. And I can assume (I may be very wrong - Beware: ASS of U and ME) that there may be some pressure, from the commercial providers of apps, for you to cease and desist from your generosity. So let me therefore say, even at this late stage, two years after all the horses have bolted -

THANKS for a very useful tool to test the usefulness of the canvas concept in a form that is as - Advanced (more than flat paper) yet Simple (in the Osterwalder mould) as you intended.

Great work and welcome generosity Diderik.

Rob

p.s. It's the best 'business model canvas' (BMC) spreadsheet template I have found anyway.
