As a little introduction to my discussion proposal:
Hello to every one, my name is Alejandro Poli I´m the Incubator Manager at Mayor University in Santiago, Chile.
Some months ago I found the site, bought the book, and decided to give it a chance.
Armed with some big canvas, some pens and a lot of stickers, I started to confront every new business idea and growing company inside the incubator with the idea of model their business.
I could make a long story about how this went, but basically every single business refresh it's concepts, and rebuild some mayor process.
But is in the "idea of a business" part, so hard to work around in my business, the one to have a substantial change, students, teachers, entrepreneurs have, for the first time, a tool they really understand and more important one that serves as translator to others, in a few meetings they become aware of the weakness of their models, the problems their idea have to be implemented, and their OWN those problems, normally a person with a good idea feels rejected and push down because we always see "the problems" (ex. how are you going to sell this?) but as I make them navigate trough the canvas they see each new situation as a challenge to solve and something I´m HELPING to solve instead feeling I´m the problem.
This make me think there is no other area of more impact of the canvas than the business incubator, because I almost have to deal daily with a new business model, and have one unified system to test all kind of business made my life easier, my work more efficient and even fun.
Discussion:
Since seems this is a real and reliable tool, the market is filled with people charging as consultant that are really hard to know if they are or not good at helping business to develop, and the innovation and new business require good and reliable consultants in business matters,
Could this hub provide some kind of professional instance of the Business Modeling, I mean, today (at least in South America) the business modeling is just a concept, but is much more than a tool, it should be something to be teached like a course or diploma.
Should/could the hub not only discuss modeling, but teach how to model? or at least certify in some way that you know and work with this tools?
