A clean, light and airy design. The text is easy to read. I like it!

Alan,

Terrific insight into the thought process behind the design.

The approach of breaking the content into the pure chunks (definition, blackboard, case studies, etc) works particularly well.

This put an idea into my head (spurred on by your blackboard chicken!) that I'm sure Alex has already considered.
In an age where all content is "plastic" and can be re-arranged into its atomic parts, could Alex offer additional products (these could be free a la Chris Anderson to drive demand for the book) of simply all the definitions, all of the blackboards, etc in one downloadable set of a few pages? These would make terrific aide memoirs and the base for teaching/studying materials.
The chargeable could be the same content but on cards (like IDEO's method cards and XPLANE's discovery cards) with the blackboard image on one side (chicken and egg!) and brief definition and 1 line reference to case studies on the other. That way we consultants can sit down with clients, spread out the cards and explore which patterns would be applicable.
Of course I note that the cards typically offer a margin way in excess of the book!

One small design point is that when there are three elements on a canvas and they are colour co-ordinated by red/green/blue then they can be tricky to follow with the same "at a glance" ease that is the case with the rest of the book.

Overall - very impressed with design that communicates complex concepts in a simple and appealing way.
WoW!! It has come out quite well in the 1st look. Will do a detailed reading over the weekend.
WoooooooooooooW
Really impressive!!!
Great presentation and easy to follow. Thanks.

"A business model innovation should be hand-crafted, based on a creative process against a methodological background" , that is what I read into the design. I like the contrast between the clean definition spread and the text=illustration blackboard. Best spread for me is the Freemium pattern page with its back-of-the-envelope inspiring the spreadsheet. Great work!

The Apple evolution spread is less successful, I feel. It's the only white spread without a canvas of some sort (or is the iTunes screenpint the canvas?), and in my first glance through the chapter, it kind of broke the rhythm.

Will have a closer read over the weekend.

Thanks Alan, for making the effort of taking us through the process in such an enjoyable manner!
What a work¡ Excellent
The overall design works really well and I think it will look great in print.
