We are about to use the canvas and model with a public university continuing education
division. I am also going to teach the tools in my fall MBA class. Any suggestonis or ideas?
I used the canvas for education purposes, to raise the business awareness of (academia) researchers.

My 2 cents would be:
- to use extensively storytelling, bring many illustrative cases and provide many hands-on activities.
- to be as visual & participative as possible, for being in line with the mind-set of the over-arching approach.
- to enforce the accurate use of the (few) terms of the canvas: since we promote it as a common vocabulary, no trespassing should be tolerated :)
I work in the government part of the public sector. Often it takes some clients a while to wrap their minds around the third party pay system, i.e. the revenue stream is not necessarily derived from the client segments who get the core value proposition. One party is paying you to deliver value to a different client/customer.
It is important in public sector business models - most often funded as above - to ensure you capture explicitly the value the organization represents to the funding body, and that body is clearly shown as a distinct client segment. In our case Parliament (elected government of Canada) allocates appropriations to the departments and agencies to deliver value to the citizens of Canada and other approved clients. Parliament has to be shown as a client segment for any departmental business model.
