Maybe I'm a tad late but I'm missing a fundamental piece in the book so far: Execution. How to implement business model innovations, what works what not. How is it different from the "usual" strategy execution etc..

what do others think? Too big a topic to be included? Topic of a separate book? Too unsexy a topic? I get the impression that it's easy to talk about innovation & design but what about the nitty gritty stuff.. the stuff that really sepeartes winners from losers?

Simple response: Too big & topic for a next book... We discussed this several times and decided to start with the fundamentals of the business model concept.

No doubt that implementation is crucial and that it separates the winners from the others - that has always been the case. However, as to your statement that "it's easy to talk about innovation & design" I only partially agree. I believe we do not yet fully understand the dynamics of business model innovation. Hence, our motivation to write this book. I think we are much better equipped when it comes to implementation...

It is a reality that business model innovation project often fail during the implementation phase. However, I don't think we will change that by writing about it in this book ;-) There are particularities to business model innovation projects. Writing about that is stuff for a next book - in case this one takes off and sells well...

With the benefit of hindsight has the Business Model Generation "taken off" yet and has it sold as well as you expected. ;-)

I am interested have you gone any further with the concept of the next stage after the business model is "complete" with respect to implementation?
