Just tried to come up with a list of factors hindering business model innovation (BMI). Here are some of my ideas, please comment, refute, add, etc. Numbering does not imply any prioritization.

1. The business model field in general is not mature enough.

1. A lack of practical support for BMI specifically in the form of frameworks, tools and approaches.

2. A lack of fundamental understanding of BMI specifically with respect to underlying theories.

3. Organizations find it hard to innovate in general.

4. BMI is a type of innovation that is hard.

5. Organizations are not used to analysing and designing business models in general.

6. Organizations are locked into the success of their current business model.
