Why are you passionate about business models and business model innovation?

I am four months in to a new role as MD of a precision automotive/defence/clean energy company which has considerable expertise in high quality mechanical and electrical engineering, but its previous business model was based upon on time and quality with little or no concern for cost (Formula 1 racing). As we diversify into other business areas, this business model is no longer tenable.
