Conducting a business model survey for a particular industry or sector.

After reading Business Model Generation, I want to better understand what the business models are in the now fast growing semantic technology space. I'm hoping to conduct a survey targeted at specific learning objectives (see below) that could be adapted to any other speciliazed area. Does anyone have any past experience they can share that might save me some wasted effort? E.g. has anyone done this before for a single industry or sector? **** Learning Objectives for Semantic Technology Survey…See More

Profile Information

Why are you passionate about business models and business model innovation?
Because it is fun, it is creative, it involves thinking out of the box. I have spent 30 years in a career developing and applying expertise in semantic technology. My goal is to become a master at business model design, analysis, evaluation and development and apply this skill to the fast growing semantic technology sector. I also wish to apply it to Social Business where the profit motive is replaced by a social benefit motive.
How would you best describe your level of expertise when it comes to business models?
some knowledge
Who do you work for? What do you do?
I am in independent consultant. My career has been focused on engineering and applying ontologies in academia and industry. See my LinkedIn profile for more information: http://tr.im/limfu.
What industry do you mainly work in (e.g. financial services, telco, utilities, public sector, academia, pharma...)?
Information Technology
What is the size of the organization you work for?
1-10
Do you want to add anything? Feel free. Any topic.
I would also like to find a way to apply semantic technology to the art and practice of business model generation. This could involve creating a more formal ontology based on Alex's PhD thesis and use it as the basis for a database of business models that can be queried and reasoned over in sophisticated ways. If this has already been done - please save me the trouble, and let me know!
