Business Model Innovation is a relatively new concept. In the book, "Mastering the Hype Cycle," Jackie Fenn and Mark Raskino note that the term "business model" arose in the mid-1990s. The concept of business model has gone through three stages of the Hype Cycle: Technology Trigger; Peak of Inflated Expectations; Trough of Disillusionment.
