Visio template for Business Model Canvas

Dear BMC-enthusiasts,

As a response to some discussion on on a Visio template for the BMC, I created a draft version of such a template.

Download it here: BMC Visio

A bit of explanation:

  • The canvas is set as a 'background page' so you cannot accidentally mess it up while creating a business model. You can add more than 1 canvas by adding a page: select "Canvas Background" as background in page properties when creating.
  • The stencil file should be in same directory as template. Contains a 'sticky note' shape. More shapes can be added if needed.
  • An example is included, created from Alexander Osterwalder's Facebook reverse engineering post.

Feel free to use it in any way you see fit. Reference appreciated. And if you have any ideas for improvements, please let me know.

Enjoy the modeling!

I didnt' know there were standard sticky notes in this software. You learn something new every day.

Thank you!

Hi Micaela,

you could just add your own. They are a standard sticky note callout just resized and perhaps with a font size change.

Just open the Callout stencil from Visio Extras (I think that's what it's called, I don't have it in front of me) and drag a sticky note onto the canvas.

Nice initiative.

Only I can't get the post-it note working. The path to calout_m.vss does not work, and I don't know how to change it. Anyone got any tips?

Sorted. I just had to point it to the right callout shape. We're using a different version of Viso so the path to calout_m.vss where the master shape is defined is different.

Thanks very much Diderik,

I'm having a little trouble with the shortcut to the Memo shape. There doesn't seem to be a master shape associated with it. Otherwise it's very nice.

thanks again,
